Legal publishing firm homes in on our talented law graduates

Justis Publishing said the new members of staff, who will analyse and research case law and legislation, will be paid starting salaries of £17,000 and will work from home.

The company publishes legal information electronically and provides publishing software and services to the legal profession, government, academics and industry. Invest NI said it had offered Justis £32,000 in support to take on the new staff. The company is making a total investment of £270,000.

Rory Campbell, the company’s editorial manager and a past pupil of St Columb’s College in Londonderry, said: “We considered alternative locations in the UK, Republic of Ireland and India for our expansion but settled on Northern Ireland because of the availability of highly skilled law graduates here.

“Support from Invest NI’s Jobs Fund will enable us to boost our editorial team quickly in order to accommodate our long-term growth plans.”

He said the new staff would be law graduates or people who had finished their training to become solicitors and barristers. “We anticipate they will continue to work from home as we move onto projects, but that will be monitored as we go on from project to project.”

Over the last few years Northern Ireland has attracted major international law firms like Allen & Overy and Herbert Smith Freehills, who have set up back-office operations with Invest NI aid.

Mr Campbell said: “We did take account of the growing legal cluster of companies here, but the big pull was the large pool of good graduates we felt we could offer roles to, as well as the strong support from Invest NI.”
