Justis CariLaw Collection

Justis is pleased to announce their new partnership with the University of the West Indies to become the exclusive provider of CariLaw starting this year.

Exclusive to Justis

CariLaw contains over 44,000 cases from 18 Caribbean jurisdictions, including those decided by the Caribbean Court of Justice, and superior and specialist courts.

Available on JustisOne, you will be able to see the treatment of cases across jurisdictions and conduct comparative research in new ways, between the CCJ, Privy Council, and Caribbean Islands, as well as between Caribbean, UK, Canada, Australian and other jurisdictions.

The CariLaw database was originally provided by the University of the West Indies (UWI) Faculty of Law Library. Since 1970, the UWI has been collecting, organising and disseminating Commonwealth Caribbean primary law, both in print and electronically, and they have made it their mission to make Caribbean law more accessible throughout the region.

The CariLaw website, established by the UWI in 2003, is the result of this hard work and dedication. As many law reports in the Caribbean are now out of date, this extensive database of unreported cases is an essential resource for law students, academics, legal professionals and government departments. Justis is proud to become the exclusive provider from 2017 onwards.

“It is impossible to undertake any serious Commonwealth Caribbean legal research without engaging CariLaw.” – Hon. Justice Saunders, Caribbean Court of Justice

Bolt-on products

The following products are available individually, as an addition to any core product.

1986 onwards

Exclusive to Justis, the Bermuda Law Reports are the official law reports for Bermuda, comprising considered judgments of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal for this important common law jurisdiction. The series also contains comprehensive transcripts of all judgments from 2013 onwards, which are updated weekly.

With detailed and incisive judgments going back to 1986, this series offers a wealth of new material for practitioners and researchers specialising in such areas as:

  • Tax
  • Arbitration
  • Insurance
  • Reinsurance
  • General company matters
  • Trusts

Like our gradually increasing body of foreign material on Justis, the Bermuda Law Reports also offer useful backup precedent for general practitioners. As a nation in its own right, it is faced with the full range of court issues.

Access is crucial to practitioners and researchers in Bermuda.

1952 onwards

New to Justis in 2015, the Cayman Islands Law Reports contain cases and notes from the Cayman Islands and other related jurisdictions. This collection brings together the most important jurisprudence from the Grand Court and the Court of Appeal, providing a vital repository for practitioners and librarians in the Cayman Islands and other offshore territories.

The series provides unique content from practice areas such as:

  • Civil procedure
  • Commercial law
  • Company law
  • Family law
  • Trusts law

Around 80 cases are added to the Cayman Islands Law Reports every year.

Indexed titles

Alongside the full-text content, JustisOne provides an index of law reports, transcripts and official legislation on over 120 services. Access detailed relationships and citation metadata for each case and seamlessly link to the relevant documents on other services.

Why index cases from other platforms?

With an increasing number of legal databases online, it can be difficult to know which platform has the content you’re looking for, and searching multiple services is time-consuming. Justis provides a single point of entry for all your research.
