English Reports – Introduction
This electronic version of the English Reports incorporates the complete text of the printed publication. The English Reports is the authoritative source for published reports of cases that constitute binding precedents in English law.
The printed version of English Reports comprises 176 volumes of reprints of case reports from 1220 to 1873 and 2 volumes of indexes. The original reports are collectively known as nominate reports, because they are known by the names of the people who compiled them. Each report in the English Reports has 2 citations, one to the original publication (the nominate citation) and one to the reprint (the ER citation); these can be found in the Citation field.
