Daily Cases – Introduction

The Daily Cases database on the Justis website is based on the case report summaries from The WLR Daily website (formerly known as Daily Law Notes) produced by the Incorporated Council of Law Reporting for England and Wales. For the Daily Cases database, the documents are divided into fields, each of which is indexed to permit searching with all of the facilities found in the other Justis Case Law databases. The normal Justis linking and cross-referencing facilities are also available. Coverage starts from June 1999. The database is updated each working day, and 30–40 cases are added each month.

Daily Cases includes judgments of the House of Lords, the Privy Council, the Court of Appeal, all Divisions of the High Court, the Courts-Martial Appeal Court, the Restrictive Practices Court, the Employment Appeal Tribunal and the European Court of Justice. Only cases that develop or clarify a point of law or that set legal precedent are included. Practice Directions, Practice Notes and Practice Statements are also included.

The summaries of cases are produced by the ICLR’s team of barristers and solicitors. Full versions of many of the case reports will later be included in The Law Reports, The Weekly Law Reports and Industrial Cases Reports and the Justis databases derived from them, but other cases do not appear in the printed series.
