State Trials – Introduction


This electronic version of State Trials incorporates the complete text of the printed publication. State Trials is a collection of old reports of trials for offences against the State (such as high treason), and of trials of high-ranking officials (such as ministers and governors) for crimes including bribery, corruption, murder, piracy, riot, sedition and witchcraft.

The printed version of State Trials comprises the original series of 33 volumes covering 1163–1820 and the New Series of 8 volumes covering 1820–1858.
