The Criminal Law Online Service (CLOS) switched from www.firstlaw.ie to the Justis platform this morning, where users will enjoy numerous new benefits.

Running in tandem to the more general Irish Case Law Information and Legislation from First Law, which is also now on Justis, CLOS keeps the busy practitioner up-to-date with new case law and recent changes specifically in criminal law.

Subscribers are sent a monthly electronic newsletter and a weekly email alert, each containing articles and analysis by leading practitioners and academics.

Deliveries of these emails will continue seamlessly. But the hyperlinks contained within will now take readers to the Justis database, where the relevant full-text material is now housed, and from where users can search it.

While First Law is maintaining its editorial input in CLOS, subscribers new to the Justis interface will now benefit from a growing portfolio of services and optimized functionality on the Justis platform, which allows users to:

Set up and manage their own email alerts for case names and subject areas of specific interest
Use sophisticated but intuitive search and results handling techniques
View a trail of previous searches and documents opened
Set up IP recognition so they won’t need to enter passwords
Combine their searches, if required, with other series they might subscribe to on Justis, such as Irish Case Law Information and Legislation from First Law, and the Irish Reports & Digests
