London – January 2021
Students studying at universities in the UK and Ireland can now enter a new legal research competition, DICTUM, hosted by legal technology company vLex. Focused on answering legal questions, the competition provides students with an opportunity to develop and test skills that are important for any career in the legal industry.
Launched under the vLex Justis Academy banner, DICTUM is more than a competition; it is the first step a student can take in realising their legal research potential and will make them stand out from other candidates in a highly competitive sector.
As well as testing your research skills, DICTUM also offers the winning student a remote internship with vLex’s Global Markets team, and a £300 cash prize. This unique opportunity to embed yourself in a leading international legal technology company who services the biggest law firms, top law schools, government departments and organisations from around the world. This will enable the winner to gain a greater insight into the legal industry by providing a perspective that most legal professionals do not benefit from.
Runners-up will also be selected and will receive a £100 cash prize.
DICTUM is a competition with two distinct stages. Firstly, students will provide a 500-word written answer to a legal question using vLex Justis for their research. To support students to prepare the answers using vLex Justis, extensive video guides are available and two special webinars will be hosted during the first stage of the competition.
After a shortlisting process, the strongest entrants will then be asked to prepare a thorough presentation on a specific area of law, which they will deliver to a panel of judges.
By requiring students to deliver their answers in both written and presentation format, the competition provides opportunities to develop and enhance the different communication skills that any aspiring legal professional will benefit from.
